coquelicots-et-jonquilles asked: I and everyone else are dazzled by the Jazz Age Lawn Party pictures. The events you attend and the people present always amaze. I live across the country, so they are an abstract idea to me, but I have a friend who lives in the general vicinity of NYC who really would like to find some decent anachronistic parties/events to go to. Do you think you might offer some suggestions to the social debutante-- where a beginner could find information on quality parties/shows, etc? Much obliged, thanks!
Aww, thank you, darling. The lawn party is easily one of my favorite vintage NYC events. And it’s happening again in August, so your friend should definitely attend. Another good event which I have mentioned before is Wit’s End, which happens every last Saturday of the month. The Champagne Riot is another monthly treat. In July, Wit’s End, Champagne Riot, the Salon and DoV all get together and produce the Liberty Belle Spectacular.
In general, I would recommend scouring Time Out NY for events like this - they sneak in among the more boring modern nightclub stuff - when you want up to date information. Zelda magazine also has a vintage life section at the back of every issue which covers everything from nightlife events to shopping to vintage dining. The first issue in particular has NYC gems.
…This is why I don’t sleep. And why everything hurts. The dancing. God, the dancing.
