Good News, Everyone! The Baritarian History Comic is now for sale again! Quantities are limited, but we have a shiny new shop you should check out, full of prints, cards, and original drawings!
Enjoy!
Here’s the deal, babies. My surgery is finally scheduled for the end of September. I am just a little short of my medical expense goal, and I still need funds for the flight to the facility for me and for my husband to care for me. We have just put up a brand new shop on our website (and will be shortly shutting down Etsy). I am clearing out A LOT of ORIGINAL art, as well as prints, paper dolls, calendars, greeting cards and, yes, the comic! So please, if you ever wanted to own a piece of my original art, head over to the shop and check it out! Or spread the word!
Post-Restoration Valliet II in an outfit stolen from Visconti’s Ludwig.
I’m posting this drawing of my favorite Russians from Baritarian Boy from a few months ago with a Russian-related question. Lawrence has suggested the idea of translating the comic into Russian in the past, and I got further encouragement from Phobs today. So, my Russian or Russian-speaking friends and followers - would you be interested in a translation? With the deadlines I’m currently working under, this probably won’t happen until autumn, when we plan to start updating Baritarian Boy again, but it’s food for thought, yes?
Feeling a bit drained, so I took a break from illustrations and did some mindless doodling today. I really love the design of Moleskins and the way the paper takes pencil and pen, but ink and watercolor seem to be an entirely different story. It’s really bothering me… hate to waste a sketchbook just because it won’t take my colors well, ugh.
On the bright side, there is a tiny Vicky! She is possibly one of my most favorite characters to draw for her ridiculous fashion sense and hair size alone.
Also… glam rock Oberon? I don’t know.
So I have been getting a lot of asks asking me about prints, commissions, and how they could paper their walls in my art (not kidding, like three of you specifically asked about covering your walls with my things - you darlings!). So let’s tackle one thing at a time!
First of all, I just put together an FAQ page - take a look and let me know if there is anything missing or anything you want to know about.
Secondly, about commissions - this is as good a time as any to announce that I am once again closing commissions until the end of the summer. I just signed a contract for a big illustrating job and submitted a proposal for a queer erotic comic for an anthology (more exciting info on both these developments to follow!), and both of these deadlines are in September. So I’m going to wrap up the jobs I currently have and not take any more until these big projects are finished.
Thirdly - prints and sales. I just updated the Esty store as it has never been updated before! The above picture is only a small portion of what’s for sale. There is a crapload of original art (including some of these dandy miniatures and demon silhouettes), art prints, packages of Rhinestone Follies paper dolls and greeting cards. A bunch of my Lawrence’s art is also for sale - including amazing portraits of Baritarian royalty the Seven Deadly Sins from our comic Baritarian Boy! So please check it out!

Some original miniatures to be sold at MoCCA! These are a few of Baritaria’s best known monarchs.
Valliet I (1870s) - Re-established the di Baritariae dynasty after a short diversion into republicanism. Mostly known for modernizing the country, introducing domestic electricity, telephones, and Western style entertainments like light opera and music hall.
Lord Wren (1500s) - Took capital by force, implementing strict Vitterzinde rule, and expanding borders. Known for ruthless cruelty toward the Ottomans, the Christians, and his own people.
Queen (King) Zsu Zsa (late 1400s) - Kept invaders at bay from two shores, sponsored numerous cultural developments such as libraries, art collections, and theatre, but mainly known for habitual cross-dressing and skinny dipping.
Einrich The Unwilling (a period of less than 1 month in the 1500s) - Zsu Zsa’s anxiety-ridden son, quickly dispatched by the Vitterzinde family occupation.
Valliet III (never ruled, but officially held title of King in 1920s-30s) - After WW1, he worked in Europe as a journalist, suffered from narcolepsy, and wrote a very popular memoir.
Gustav (1990s-present) - Returned to Baritaria after the fall of the Soviet Union, and was elected into parliament, then Prime Minister. At the end of his term, he retained the title of head of state. He continues to encourage sustainable domestic energy, farming, tourism, and civil rights.
I just realized that I never reblogged this even though I meant to. My husband drew some gorgeous royal portraits and wrote up a neat little guide to most of the royalty already introduced in Baritarian Boy. I really can’t wait to expand on these guys some more - we have a lot of background stories! Especially for Zsu Zsa and her consort and Gustav and his time in WWII and post-war Baritaria. And of course the Valliet I chapters are going to be… epic. Ooof.

Baritarian Boy (http://baritarianboy.thecomicseries.com/comics/) is my newest obssesion, and I’m sure it will last. AMAZING art and story, really unusual for an onlie comic. I’m deeply in love with it. CHECK IT OUT NOW. I COMMAND YOU, MINIONS.
I wish I had Baritaria as my Erasmus destination. Still having problems with German. Damn spaniards, we really can’t understand a word in this country xD
Oh my gosh, I just found this. Let me love you.

was fabulous! Despite the horrible acoustics that make you hear a conversation going on in the opposite corner of the giant room while you shout “what??” to the person trying to talk to you right in front of your face, the general non-stop din, heat and awful bright lights, I had a blast. I am completely exhausted and very pleased. There was an incredible showing of talent this year. So many brilliant little babies who made me feel like an old hack! We met a lot of sweet people, made some wonderful new friends and were even visited by a few lovely fans (I know, what, fans!!?? I tried to be all cool and shit, but I was all verklempt on the inside). Thank you to all who came by, looked at our stuff, bought and traded things and were generally lovely.

Here are my insanely gorgeous husband and our fabulous Frau von Veister (the evil twin of Anja Keister) at the Baritarian Pop-Up Embassy. And here is the gorgeous loot we collected over the weekend:

The highlights of which include this fucking shirt which I’ve lusted over for a while now

this wonderful WWI book and print - the artist was a lovely guy and incredible with ink, and I gave him one of my Christmas truce prints!

this fucking NAZI CORGI. Seriously, everyone should have just packed their shit and gone home. Oh you do art? Ok. This guy drew a NAZI CORGO. Just go.

…as well as a wonderful little zine of the most gorgeous porn (of all varieties) ever, a little canvas print of Thomas from Downton Abbey, gorgeous art prints, a comic from a lovely queer Russian boy about Stonewall and drag queens, comics about selkies, Greek myths and loads of other wonderful art and treats. Husband and I vowed to do more cons in the coming year.
I haven’t drawn Ella in way too long, and I’ve been working out the next chapter in my head, so here we are.
Voila, our table location at this year’s MoCCA Fest! We’ll be there all weekend long hawking all kinds of awesome stuff! We’ll have a fresh new batch of Baritarian Histories, loads of greeting cards, prints, a few Zelda magazines, paper dolls and original art for sale. So stop by and visit us!

You know you want this.

post-punk asked: the list of tropes reminded me how much i miss baritarian boy! though i disagree with them saying ella 'settled for gay' alexei o m g
Awww, bb! It will be back on track very very soon! And yeah, it’s a little… simplistic to say that she settled, for sure. I can see how one might think that from how little of their story we’ve told so far, though. I can’t wait to get into it more!

Ravens in Van Dyke collars and devils in ruffs. I have been having blissful lunches in the park, drinking tea and doodling relaxing things next to a carousel that cranks out Edith Piaf. That raven is probably some sort of pedantic department manager in hell.
Fyodor Pavlov will be at MoCCA Fest this year! If you haven’t already, take a look at his lush, historically-informed work.
Yay, I can’t wait for MoCCA! Lawrence and I recently sold out of Baritarian Histories, and we ordered a new batch for the fest. So if you missed a chance to buy a copy, come out and see us!

Whoever did this - I just… love you.
Baritarian Boy has been on hiatus since I went in for surgery, but since that comic is nearly done, i am SO looking forward to picking it up again. ;_;
What he said. Seriously, when I stumbled on that link, I was just like

Illustration for a Baritarian fairy tale. I drew the picture first, and then Lawrence made up a wonderful story about it. I don’t want to tell it yet, though, because I would like to make it into a comic.
Doodling more nomadic Northern Baritarians - this time a lady. The plaits are my favorite. Princess Isabella, Valliet I’s aunt styled her hair in a similar way centuries later.
